Description
Produced at the Denver Mint, the 1912 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent is part of the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. With a mintage of 10.4 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 13% of production. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
