Description
The 1908 (S) Philippine Fifty Centavos is a cent produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Philippines Fifty Centavos 1903-1945 series. Total mintage reached 1.6 million. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, similar to but larger than the twenty centavos and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Auction record: $7,200 � MS65 � 08-21-2019 � Stack's Bowers.
