Description
The 1908 Proof Philippine Ten Centavos is a proof silver ten-centavo coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1908 for the Philippine Islands under United States administration. When the value of silver rose, the act of June 23, 1906 lowered the weight and fineness of the Philippine silver coins: from 1907 the ten centavos weighs 30.864 grains (2 grams) of .750 silver and is smaller across. Philadelphia struck the 1907 coins and the 1908 proofs, San Francisco the coins of 1907-1919 with an S, and the Manila Mint those of 1920 and 1921 without a mint mark and of 1929 and 1935 with an M. Proofs were struck at the Philadelphia Mint for the Philippine proof sets sold from 1903 to 1908. Greysheet's listing and the Krause catalogue both record 500 pieces. Catalogue numbers: KM-169. PCGS number 90272.
