In 1908, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features experimental designs exploring artistic improvements to U.S. coinage and the reverse displays various experimental designs. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck.
