Description

A Gold Half Eagle from the Denver Mint, the 1907 (D) Liberty Head Half Eagle belongs to the Liberty Head Half Eagles 1839-1908 series. The Denver Mint struck 888,000 half eagles dated 1907. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle. The Liberty Head was struck once more, in 1908, before the Indian Head incuse design replaced it. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.65 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8417.
