Description

The 1906 Proof Philippine Centavo is a proof cent from the Philippines Centavos 1903-1945 series. The obverse features a male figure seated beside a hammer and anvil and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Auction record: $229 PR64 06-26-2014 Heritage Auctions. Struck in bronze, weighing 3.6 grams, 24 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #90156.
