Description
The 1903 Proof Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commemorative Gold Dollar - Jefferson is a proof Gold Dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Classic Gold Commemoratives (1903-1926) series. With a mintage of only 100, this is an extremely rare issue. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, while the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Designed by Charles E. Barber. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7482. Classic Gold Commemoratives were produced between 1903 and 1926 in gold dollar and $2.50 quarter eagle denominations. Low mintages across the entire group make most classic gold commemoratives scarce. The 1915 Panama-Pacific $50 pieces are among the most valuable commemorative coins.
