Description

Bad weather hurt Charleston's Inter-State and West Indian Exposition, which ran from December 2, 1901, to May 31, 1902. For two thirds of its season the weather was called forbidding beyond anything known, and the gate came to only about 675,000, half of it paid. HK-295 is the white metal version of one of its medals, showing a winged female figure poised on a globe with ships and a train in the background; on the reverse a stalk of corn and flowers tied with a ribbon stands beside lettering that names the fair, its years and Charleston, S. C. Hibler and Kappen give the same design in brass (HK-294), silver (HK-294a) and nickel (HK-295a). White metal, 35 mm.
