1896 Indian Head Cent Horned 9 FS-302 Snow-21
Error
Description
This 1896 Indian Head cent features a "Horned 9" variety designated FS-302 (Snow-21). A horn-like projection appears out of the 9 in the date. This is classified as a UFO (Unidentified Foreign Object on die), a category used for die markers whose exact origin is uncertain. The horn may have resulted from a die gouge, foreign material on the die, or an incomplete attempt to polish out a defect. The distinctive horn projecting from the 9 makes this a visually interesting and easily identifiable variety.
