Description
Lauer's view of the Mechanics Building on HK-264 has a special link to the medals themselves: Hibler and Kappen say many of the fair's aluminum souvenirs were struck in that building on the exposition grounds. The hall fills the reverse with "Mechanics / Building" beneath it, an abbreviated form of the fair's name with San Francisco and 1894 above, and the signature Lauer near the edge at the lower left of the building, inside a beaded border. The other side is the plain modified California state seal in a beaded border shared by every Lauer piece from HK-262 to HK-267. The California Midwinter Exposition was open in Golden Gate Park from February 28 to July 9, 1894. This medal is aluminum and measures 35 mm.
