Description
The Mechanics Art Building was more than an exhibit hall at the Midwinter Exposition: Hibler and Kappen record that many of the aluminum medals of the fair were struck inside it. HK-251 pictures the building on its reverse, labeled "Mechanics Art / Building" within a circle, with "Souvenir" above between stars and "of the Sun-Set City" below, the nickname the fair earned for its mix of architectural styles. On the obverse the electric tower stands in a circle open at the top, the words "Electric" and "Tower" on either side, with the fair's full name around and 1894 below, inside a beaded border. It is aluminum, 38 mm. The same tower obverse appears on HK-252, and this building side is reused on HK-253.
