Description
A Gold Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1894 Liberty Head Eagle belongs to the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 2,470,735 eagles dated 1894. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle. Post-Panic recovery; eagles produced at Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8729.
