Description
Produced at the San Francisco Mint, the 1892 (S) Barber Dime is part of the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. With a mintage of 990,710, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 6% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. First year of the Barber design across dimes, quarters, and half dollars — a coordinated design family. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $91 to $968 depending on grade and condition.
