Description

Under an obverse view captioned "Administration Buildg." and the legend "World's Columbian Exposition," this aluminum piece carries the Childs reverse that sells the metal by weight: incuse "Aluminum" on a ribbon, a list of its qualities, and the comparison of a cubic foot of gold at 1,204 pounds with aluminum at 179, ending with the claim that the medal is pure. The Administration Building housed the offices of a fair organized under acts of Congress in 1890, which created a National Commission to work with the exposition company chartered that April. The fair's twelve main palaces and some two hundred lesser buildings made up what was called the White City. HK-162 measures 38 mm, a millimetre larger than its reverse sisters HK-161, HK-161a and HK-161b, and is listed without an Eglit number. The exposition was dedicated in 1892.
