Description
Reciprocity and commerce between the Americas are the message of HK-731a, a Kansas City smelting company's medal of 1889 struck in aluminum. Two standing women personify North and South America on the reverse, staffs in hand, above the Spanish motto "Los Americas Unidas," with "Reciprocity * The United Americas * Commerce" around the top. The obverse brings together the two heads of state, President Benjamin Harrison and Mexico's President Porfirio Diaz, in conjoined busts signed by F. C. Kurtze, while the legend carries the smelting firm's greeting, addressed to the American Congress. The silver HK-731 heads the listing and a copper striking is HK-731b. Aluminum, 38 mm; Rulau Ks-Ag 3a.
