Description

Benjamin Harrison of the United States and Porfirio Diaz of Mexico share the obverse of HK-731, their busts conjoined and facing right, with 1889 beneath and F. C. Kurtze's name in microscopic letters on the truncation. The surrounding legend explains the occasion: the Consolidated Kansas City Smelting & Refining Co. sends its greeting to the American Congress. On the reverse two women stand facing out, each holding a staff, as the two Americas, over the words "Los Americas Unidas," and the top border reads "Reciprocity," "The United Americas" and "Commerce" between stars. The listing gives the medal in silver (this piece), aluminum (HK-731a) and copper (HK-731b). Silver, 38 mm; Rulau Ks-Ag 3.
