Description
The 1886 Liberty Head Nickel is a nickel produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Liberty Head Nickels 1883-1912 series. With a mintage of 3.3 million, this is a scarce issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a Roman numeral V (five) within a wreath of corn, cotton, and wheat. Another low-mintage semi-key date with 3,330,290 struck, making it scarce in all grades. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $249 to $2.6K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #3847.
