Description
The 1884 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a Gold Quarter Eagle in the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 1,950 quarter eagles dated 1884. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Minimal quarter eagle production as the denomination became increasingly obsolete for trade. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7836.
