Description
The 1884 (CC) Liberty Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle from the Carson City Mint, belonging to the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. With a mintage of 9,925, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 5% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Four-mint production at Philadelphia, Carson City, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Coined at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated for just 23 years (1870–1893) and produced coins now prized for their scarcity and Western provenance. S. numismatics.
