Description
The 1883 Nickel Three Cent Piece, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Nickel Three Cent Pieces 1865-1889 collection. With a mintage of 4,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing left with a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a Roman numeral III within a wreath. Struck during the Gilded Age of rapid industrialization and the great silver debates, when monetary policy shaped elections and economic destiny. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $407 to $3.4K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 1.94 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
