Description
The 1882 (CC) Liberty Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle from the Carson City Mint, belonging to the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. With a mintage of 6,764, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Eagles struck at Philadelphia, Carson City, New Orleans, and San Francisco — four-mint production. The Carson City Mint operated from 1870 to 1893, striking coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collected mintmarks in numismatics. S. numismatics.
