Description
Produced at the Carson City Mint, the 1879 (CC) Liberty Head Eagle is part of the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. The Carson City Mint struck 1,762 eagles dated 1879. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle. Resumption of specie payments. The Carson City Mint operated from 1870 to 1893, striking coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8684.
