The 1877 Proof Cent Pattern - J-1496 is an 1877 Indian Head cent in nickel that Judd lists among the patterns, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. USPatterns.com treats the nickel and copper-nickel Indian cents of these years as Mint errors rather than patterns: regular cents struck on three-cent nickel planchets or on blanks made for foreign coins. USPatterns.com believes these were struck on planchets made for the Venezuelan one centavo or the Dominican Republic five centavos, which leave the design full-sized. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1649. Cataloged as PCGS #61831.
