Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1877 Liberty Head Eagle is part of the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 797 eagles dated 1877. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle. Gold coins prepared to re-enter general circulation under the Resumption Act. Three-mint production. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8677.
