Description
The 1876 Proof Three Dollar Pattern - J-1482 is a proof three-dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1876 three-dollar gold piece dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1876 copper strikings from regular dies were made for sale to collectors in sets, which were only partly complete that year. USPatterns.com accounts for two or three examples, all gilt copper, including pieces offered as the aluminum J-1483, and has seen two counterfeits. NGC's census also lists gilt examples of this Judd number. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1635 and Adams-Woodin 1474. Cataloged as PCGS #61804.
