Description
Proof cent pattern struck in 1876, the Centennial year, as the Philadelphia Exposition showcased American innovation and the Mint continued extensive goloid alloy experiments for metric-weight coinage. This proof striking in copper or bronze is part of the minor coinage design studies for the one-cent denomination conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
