The 1875 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-1387 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1875 Shield nickel dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1875 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Four copper examples are confirmed. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1531 and Adams-Woodin 1458. Cataloged as PCGS #61694.
