Description
Proof nickel pattern struck in 1875, during the height of metric coinage experimentation, coinciding with the introduction of the Twenty Cent piece and continued exploration of international trade denominations. This proof striking in copper-nickel is part of the five-cent nickel design variants under the Shield or Liberty Head series conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
Rarity Notes
R-6 to R-7 (Very Rare to Extremely Rare). Most pattern issues from this period survive in very limited numbers.
