The 1875 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1419 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1875 Seated Liberty half dollar dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1875 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two aluminum examples are confirmed: one was given to the Smithsonian in 1963, and the other is a worn coin that was apparently carried as a pocket piece. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1562 and Adams-Woodin 1430. Cataloged as PCGS #61726.
