Description
The 1875 Proof Double Eagle Pattern - J-1448 is a proof double eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1875 double eagle dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1875 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Three copper examples are confirmed; Pollock's brass listing (Pollock-1594) is, in USPatterns.com's view, one of these coins with brassy toning. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1593 and Adams-Woodin 1399. Cataloged as PCGS #61757.
