Description
The 1875 Liberty Gold Dollar represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Large Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1856-1889 series. With a mintage of 400, this is an extremely rare issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 95% of production. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess with a larger, more detailed head design and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR. The rarest regular-issue gold dollar with only 400 business strikes — the undisputed key date of the series. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $4.4K to $19K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7576.
