Description
The 1875 (CC) Liberty Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle produced at the Carson City Mint as part of the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. With a mintage of 7,715, this is an extremely rare issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 99% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. A low-mintage year at Philadelphia and Carson City. San Francisco production was stronger. Struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated from 1870 to 1893 and produced coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collectible mintmarks in U.S. numismatics. Estimated market value ranges from $8.0K to $231K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
