The 1874 Proof Double Eagle Pattern - J-1382 is a proof double eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1874 double eagle dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1874 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two aluminum examples are confirmed. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1527 and Adams-Woodin 1363. Cataloged as PCGS #61686.
