1873 Proof Two Cent Pattern - J-1258
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Featuring the Union shield obverse and wreath reverse, J-1258 was struck in copper as one of the very last two-cent patterns ever produced. The Coinage Act of 1873 formally abolished the two-cent denomination, making these patterns the final experimental strikings of a coin type that had introduced IN GOD WE TRUST to American coinage in 1864. The piece carries special historical weight as a numismatic farewell to the denomination that first carried the national motto.
