Description
Featuring the Indian Princess obverse and wreath reverse of the production three-dollar gold piece, J-1335 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The 1873 three-dollar patterns are reduced to just two varieties, reflecting both the diminished scope of non-dollar pattern production and the three-dollar denomination's precarious position in the coinage system. Though the three-dollar piece survived the Coinage Act of 1873, it would be discontinued in 1889.
Rarity Notes
