Description
Featuring the Liberty Head with coronet obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production $10 gold piece, J-1342 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The 1873 eagle patterns are reduced to three varieties from six in 1872, reflecting the program's overall contraction as the Mint focused on implementing the Trade Dollar. The eagle denomination would continue with this design until Augustus Saint-Gaudens' revolutionary redesign of 1907.
