Civil War store card issued by Mauck & Bradbury Mauck & Bradbury of Non-Contemporary. This piece is cataloged as a non-contemporary Civil War token: a restrike, copy or collector piece made after the war. Non-contemporary pieces were made after the war as restrikes, copies or collector pieces. The coin shortage of 1862-1864 affected virtually every retail transaction in the Northern states, as hoarding removed silver and copper coins from circulation faster than the U.S. Mint could replace them. Die sinkers produced token dies on commission from merchants or speculatively for sale across multiple cities and states.
