Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Featuring the familiar Union shield obverse with IN GOD WE TRUST and the wreath reverse, J-1183 was struck in copper as one of the final two-cent patterns before the denomination's abolition. The Coinage Act of 1873 was already in advanced legislative stages when this pattern was produced, lending it a valedictory quality as a farewell to a denomination that had served the nation since 1864. The piece documents the two-cent coin's final appearance in the annual pattern program.
