The 1872 Proof Two Cent Pattern - J-1183 is a proof two-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1872 two-cent dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1872 copper and aluminum strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle. Pollock does not list it; two are recorded in the literature. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Adams-Woodin 1278. Cataloged as PCGS #61454.
