Featuring the Liberty Head with coronet obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production $2.50 gold piece, J-1230 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The 1872 quarter eagle patterns expanded from four varieties to six with the addition of the Amazonian gilt concept, bringing William Barber's revolutionary design to the gold denominations alongside its silver debut.
