1872 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-1245
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Featuring the Liberty Head with coronet obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production $10 gold piece, J-1245 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The eagle denomination, representing ten dollars in gold, received the expanded six-variety treatment in 1872 that included the revolutionary Amazonian gilt concept alongside traditional compositions. The eagle's large diameter provided an impressive canvas for pattern experimentation.
