The 1870 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-1032 is a proof half eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 half eagle dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1870 off-metal strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. Five copper examples are confirmed, two of them gilt. NGC's only census entry for J-1032 is its gilt designation, and PCGS lists gilt examples as #535103. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1167 and Adams-Woodin 834. Cataloged as PCGS #61281.
