Description

Sharing the modified Seated Liberty obverse and STANDARD wreath reverse with J-987, this silver pattern substitutes a plain edge for the reeded one. The combination of a recognizable Seated Liberty portrait with a plain edge and the STANDARD inscription on the reverse would have immediately signaled to any knowledgeable observer that this was not ordinary currency but rather a proposal for something new. Plain-edge silver half dollars in the modified Seated Liberty group are seldom encountered at auction.
