Description

Struck in silver with a reeded edge, J-987 renders the modified Seated Liberty obverse and STANDARD wreath reverse in the metal most relevant to Linderman's coinage reform. As a silver proof, this piece demonstrates how the proposed half dollar design would have appeared in the standard silver alloy, offering Mint officials and Treasury Department decision-makers the clearest possible preview of the reformed coinage. The modified Seated Liberty's updated tiara and bun hairstyle gave the familiar figure a contemporary freshness without abandoning the design language that had defined American silver coinage for three decades.
