Description
Completing the fourth group, J-984 strikes the open-wreath coronet obverse and regular eagle reverse in copper with a plain edge. This final variety exhausts the six-coin matrix for a die combination that paired Barber's most classically restrained obverse portrait with the established production reverse. The copper, plain-edge version typically attracted the least collector demand at the time of issue, which paradoxically can make survivors scarcer than their silver counterparts despite the lower original cost.
Rarity Notes
R-7. Extremely rare, estimated 4-12 examples survive.
