Description

Copper with a reeded edge, J-983 presents the open-wreath coronet obverse and regular With Motto eagle reverse in a base metal valued for its ability to reveal fine die detail. Barber's diadem design appears with particular clarity on copper strikings, where the soft metal faithfully reproduces the delicate scroll work of the IN GOD WE TRUST banner below the bust and the individual kernels of corn in the eagle's clutch on the reverse. Surviving examples in original red or red-brown condition are especially prized.

Rarity Notes

R-7. Extremely rare, approximately 4-12 examples known.
