Description
Copper with a reeded edge, J-977 translates the open-wreath coronet Liberty Head obverse and STANDARD wreath reverse into a medium that emphasizes every nuance of Barber's engraving. The softer copper metal captures the finest details of the diadem's LIBERTY inscription and the individual strands of hair gathered in Liberty's bun with particular sharpness. Over time, copper half dollar patterns develop an appealing mahogany patina that contrasts with the bright, reflective surfaces they displayed when freshly struck.
