Description
The undated round gold half dollar BG-1079 is a California fractional gold piece of Breen and Gillio's second period with a Liberty head obverse. Breen and Gillio's second period (1858 to 1882 in their second edition, 1859 to 1882 in the first) holds the pieces jewelers made mostly as souvenirs and charms; the act of June 8, 1864 made private coinage unlawful, and Secret Service seizures had ended the trade by 1883. The piece carries no date; NGC gives it the attributed date (1870), and it was catalogued as BG-1313 before PCGS moved it to the second period under its present number. Catalogue number: BG-1079. PCGS number 10910.
