Description
The twenty-fifth and final dime pattern variety for 1869, J-720 concludes the most extensive single-year design study ever conducted for the American dime. Spanning J-696 through J-720 with multiple suffix variants, the 1869 program produced approximately twenty-eight total varieties, creating a comprehensive design archive that documents William Barber's ambitious vision for the denomination. While the Seated Liberty dime would continue through 1891, the experimental work begun in 1869 foreshadowed the eventual design renewal that would produce the Barber, Mercury, and Roosevelt dimes in subsequent generations.
