Description

A proof striking of the tenth variety in the 1869 dime pattern series, reaching the midpoint of the massive program. By J-705, the experimental series had established a substantial body of design alternatives, with each subsequent variety either introducing new concepts or refining earlier ones. The Seated Liberty design that had served the dime since 1837 was now being measured against a growing collection of potential replacements, each offering its own balance of aesthetic appeal, production efficiency, and public acceptance.
