Description

The 1867 Proof Gold Dollar Pattern - J-594 is a proof gold dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It was struck from the regular 1867 gold dollar dies, so its design matches the regular coin; only the metal differs. Judd lists it in copper with a reeded edge, and USPatterns.com rates it R-7. Judd classes it as a die trial, a strike from regular dies in a metal other than the coin's own. USPatterns.com believes the copper pieces of 1867 were struck for complete sets sold to collectors. USPatterns.com accounts for five. It is catalogued as Judd-594, Pollock-658. Cataloged as PCGS #60806.
