Description
The 1867 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is a Gold Quarter Eagle minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. With a mintage of 3,200, this is an extremely rare issue — the scarcer of two mint variants, with 10% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. First full year with the new motto. Production at Philadelphia and San Francisco. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1.0K to $28K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7805.
